Spring Cleaning update

I've done a terrible job with my decision to clean random things around my house. I've done a few things around the house but I haven't done enough to be proud of my progress.  So I thought I'd fill ya'll in on what I HAVE done and go over some of my ideas to get some of the other cleaning tasks done!

Checked off:

  • Microwave:  I took pictures but it was already pretty clean so the pictures didn't really help.  What I did to clean it was simple microwave a pyrex mixing bowl of 1 cup vinegar + 1 cup hot water + a lemon skin or orange peel for 10 minutes.  Worked ok, but the house reeked of orange vinegar...not my fav smell!
  • Stainless steel sink cleanse:  Timely but I loved this!  Made my sink so clean!  I got the idea here.  First rinse the sink and sprinkle it with baking soda.  Use a toothbrush on the caulk and scrub the disposal rubber.  Then line the sink with vinegar soaked paper towels for 10 - 20 minutes.  Rinse it with soapy water.  Dump 1 cup baking soda and cup of ice in the disposal and turn it on.  Dump a lemon/orange with hot water and turn the disposal on again.  For a final effect (and little secret) spritz some windex on your faucet and wipe clean with dry rag.  Seriously, the windex on faucets thing is da bomb!
  • Sneaker wash:  My sneakers were so gross and smelly...not anymore!  They are fresh fresh fresh!  I found the suggestion to clean here.  A little baking soda and oxyclean goes a long way!  Plus, who who knew that magic erasers work wonders on the outside of running shoes!
  • Clean bath toys:  Easy peasy!  Throw your toys in the sink and fill with warm water and bleach.  Leave for a few minutes and viola!  Clean toys!  I found this trick here on Martha Stewart...go figure!
So a few things still on my list, we'll se if the actually happen!
  • Clean Pipes: Rinse 1/2 baking soda, 1/2 cup vinegar, some bleach, and boiling water
  • Unclog showerhead:  A plastic bag with hot vinegar overnight...that's it!
  • Clean pillows:  Push out all the air and wash (baking soda if smelly or vinegar if moldy) and warm water and do a second spin.  Dry with tennis balls on low heat.
  • And last but not least I love this post that Carly from College Prep for her Spring cleaning checklist...sort of my electronic spring cleaning.
